| Concert duet commissioned in 2005 by Washington state tubist Mark Lindenbaum. Parts for Bb and C trumpet. Ninth-century melodic compositional principles are freely employed alongside references to post-medieval instrumental elements, including sixteenth-century rhythmic floridity, nineteenth-century organology and a brief reference to a well-known seventeenth-century bass line which has become one of the most recognizable in history. The Fable was premiered in October 2005 by the composer and the commissioner, who are long-time friends. Mark Lindenbaum is a tubist, physician and master woodworker in Bellingham, Washington, and the fanciful title of the composition obliquely references the name and person of the tall, red-headed commissioner. | |||||||
