| This arrangement (2 cornets, 2 tenor trombones, bass trombone, and tuba) was made in 1990 for brass players from the Pasadena Pops Orchestra. It begins with chant and answer led by a solo trombone, then continues with a sinuous countermelody wailing mournfully beneath the carol tune. The contemporary harmonization of the third verse affirms a sense of hope. A horn part (substitute for Trombone 1) is provided. There is a quintet version, also (#1081). | |||||||

| I Saw Three Ships is a brass septet version of the last and most challenging of the trumpet ensemble arrangements Ray made for the Disneyland Fanfare Trumpeters. This traditional English melody is treated three ways, from a slow and tender opening, to a rollicking 6/8 feel, and culminating in breathtaking bell tones and rapid scales ripping through the trumpet's upper range. This arrangement quickly became the group's signature number. There are also versions for brass quintet (#1083) and nine trumpets (#1007). | |||||||

Auld Lang Syne Fanfare was commissioned by Kevin Brown, Director of the Pasadena City College Herald Trumpeters, for the 1987 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, California. A bold and dramatic proclamation of the New year, it has been performed in subsequent Rose Parades and has been heard by millions of people in person and via television. Auld Lang Syne Chorale was commissioned in 1990 by David Washburn for the Disneyland Fanfare Trumpeters. Its jazz harmonies and ballad tempo reflect warmly on the old year. The brass quintet version is amplified somewhat (#1072). Also available for SATB Choir (#1036).
