A fresh look at the old English Christmas carol. 3 Bb trumpets, horn, 2 trombones, and tuba. Parts of the 1st trumpet part may be played on piccolo trumpet. I Saw Three Ships is a brass septet version of the last and most challenging of the trumpet ensemble arrangements Ray made for the Disneyland Fanfare Trumpeters (#1007 for nine trumpets). This traditional English melody is treated three ways, from a slow and tender opening, to a rollicking 6/8 feel, and culminating in breathtaking bell tones and rapid scales ripping through the trumpet's upper range. This arrangement quickly became the group's signature number. There are also versions for brass quintet (#1083) and brass tentet (#1046).
